So, you have an empire of magic wielders that's so strong you've silently taken control of most or all of the kingdoms, but you leave the leaders installed and kidnap their relatives because... dethroning them would have been too much hassle?

@blakfayt It seems that they just don't care much for management, and would rather make the original leaders swear fealty than have to bother with actually RUNNING the kingdoms they conquered.

IRL, yes.
IRL we do not have an empire of magic where the leaders are ridiculously strong to the point where they can openly take princess/es as sex slaves without their parents rebelling.
Also, considering there is an element of mind control (the collars use mind control magic to make them enjoy it) and the fact that every king or queen has spent 5 years as a sex slave to the rulers and has been conditioned into to being super submissive and enjoying it...

But(t) you have to consider that hostage taking for politicle reasons was usual done to integrate the hostages (usual children) into the culture of the hostage taking empire. (example Rom )
Or to connect them to the ruling family of the stronger realm by adopting and raising them the cildren of another ruling family . (example Japan )
The depiction in this story is more akin to slavery and you usualy don't want to install animosity in the hostage becouse they are usualy the heirs to their realm.
I cant imagine that humiliating people like this and then 10 years down the road placing them on a throne of an subjugated realm will be of no consequence.
It just shows that the artist doesn't have an understanding how an empire-subject relation works.
It is everything but slavery.

Edit: just had a look what the artist had done in the past must say his art has improved a lot.
