The reason they both act like she’s old despite only being 26 is because Asia and Japan in particular have this concept of a ‘christmas cake’. In Japan it’s a tradition to eat a cake on Christmas day. Christmas is the 25th of December. There’s also a cultural tradition of a woman should be married and have had children before the age of 25. Thus, if she hasn’t she’s considered too old to marry or have kids, and men won’t want her. Just like you wouldn’t want a Christmas cake after the 25th, you wouldn’t want a woman beyond the age of 25.

Of course, in the modern day this stuff isn’t as relevant. But the cultural roots run deep.
