I dunno if it actually happens in Japan (and I couldn't find evidence of it from a quick googling), but it's pretty common, and not just in hentai. Remember that in SAO, Asuna was basically going to be legally wed with absolutely zero approval or even input needed from her (and no, "but she's unconscious" isn't a valid excuse). It's far from the most nonsensical plot line in hentai.

@-624-: Reading page 3 in the raw, it looks like there were some big debts involved, and some man from her father's company wanted her hand as repayment / collateral. Since it's unusual for employees to have more money than the owner, "my father's company" is more likely to be "the company my father works at" (in the original it's ambiguous) and so that individual might be a boss or the actual owner's son.
