She said herself that she didn't have much time left and considering that dragons live for a very long time it could be that her sense of time isn't accurate and the time that's left for her might be not that short , at least for humans. As a dragon she may have at least over 50 or even 100 years left for her to live and having that much left actually plays a big role into making this story vanilla. If the dragon girl didn't have her life span coming to the end it would be worse ending as the human boy would die and she would stay alive for almost an eternity , so now it's very vanilla as both lovers can die together like normal humans beings considering they're different species, the time they have left to live is enough for them to be happy. That's my theory and the author just skipped the whole birth thing and in the future we can see the town saved and their child living in it,

... *sigh* No, reverse scales are an actual part of eastern dragon folklore. It is a single scale that is their weak point on their otherwise impenetrable skin and touching/striking it is generally how they are defeated in tales. Modern authors love to put a spin on it, but it is not *from* any modern work, nor is it an actual reversed scale.
