Welcome to Initiation, this comic is basically a prologue for a future comic called: Spoils of War, based on background characters from the old shoujo anime "Candy Candy"

"Hey, those girls are ugly" Yup, that's actually the point. In the anime and manga these characters are intentionally ugly, it's a fine example of the old shoujo trope of "hot girl with unattractive friends"

Also this comic is based on episode 75 of the anime.
