An iron can work quickly and with good results, use a cheap-o flat one. You can put a piece of paper between the iron and tanko to limit the glue you get on the iron, but you'll likely end up with some anyway (hence why you should use a cheap/second hand one, don't use a nice one that's actually being used for clothes). That's how I tend to do it. You want to just soften/loosen the glue, not melt it entirely since that'll get really messy. As far as heat, you'll usually need less for a cheap binding and more for a nicer one, take your time to get use what settings work best with your iron (something around what you'd use for wool is a starting point). Try to pull the pages away directly, not bend them. If you do happen to melt some glue too much that'll help you avoid getting glue spots on the pages which you want to avoid. Also if you've got a hair dryer that can work too, though it's slower, doesn't give the heat control and doesn't have the convenience of helping deal with whiskers of glue and the like, so if you do much just go find a cheap iron.

Finally I've seen some people who use a microwave, but I really don't suggest that since if you mess up and go a bit too long you can end up with dark spots/burns. Fixes those ranges from "big pain" to "impossible" and either way negates the point of trying to make a better scan in the first place.
