Mordred was concieved between Arturia (Saber) and the witch Morgan Le Fey.
In the timeframe Mordred's conception Merlin used his magic to turn saber into a pseudo-male aka a futanari for a unknown amount of time for unknown reason and within that time morgan enchanted saber with a spell to "extract" sperm from her.
Once the deed was done morgan vanished for awhile and saber's sperm was enchanted with magic or what not within morgan's ovaries and thus her pregnancy did not last vey long nor did it take very long for Mordred to mature since she was born as a hummonculis though this cut down Mordred's lifespan greatly as a result.
Morgan raised her in secret and then eventually sent her to saber who took mordred in who was in the guise of a magical helmet which changed her voice and hid her true gender effectivley. Saber made mordred a knight of round table due to her unrivaled chivalry and mordred attempted to get close to saber to show that even though she was born through magic she still loved and admired saber very much as her "father". Saber did not acknowledge Mordred after finding out the "he" was the offspring of her and morgan and would never pass the crown onto "him" (Saber was technically immortal/invincible due to the magical sword excalibur and it's sheath avalon's power but eventually she lost avalon leaving her vunerable to harm but not time.)Mordred became grief stricken after this and all the love and amiration she held for her "father" turned into hatred and spite.
Later on Mordred left England and returned with a massive army and declared war on her "father" which saber returned in kind.
The armies of mordred and saber fought and eventually killed eachother off completely leaving only "father" & "son" to duel.
Eventually Saber ran mordred through with a spear and mordred's helmet was destroyed revealing her face to saber which more or less shocked her but she remained firm. Mordred asked saber why she hated her so much, was it because she was the spawn of morgan created through magic or any other reason, saber calmly stated that she never hated mordred but could not give her the crown because mordred did not the capacity of a king. With that mordred in her last dying breaths still impaled on the spear attempted to touch saber's face at least once all while calling her father one last time. Mordred died before her hand (which was mere centimeters away) reached saber's cheek and fell dangling from her body on the spear, but however even in death mordred's arm still with sword swung down onto saber dealing her a fatal blow due to morgan casting a curse on mordred should she fall. Saber as we all know died shortly after before being taken to avalon and then becoming a heroic spirit. Mordred shared a similar fate becoming a heroic spirit just like Saber.
Arturia would never see Mordred as her "son" or her heir regardless of how she came to be, even though she never hated or despised her in any way.
And Mordred would never be able to accept that Arturia would not acknowlegde her even as a son/daughter let alone heir to the throne regardless of her origin, even though Mordred had loved and admired Arturia greatly and in the end only wished to be with her real family but sadly it was not to be.
In a sense Mordred and Arturia were darkness & light or Revenge vs Rightousness, but in the end there was no victor because basically they cancelled eachother out due to both being equal in overall power (with a "few" magical enhancements) and because they were both to stubborn to accept the truth, that they were family regardless of how either came to be and should have loved eachother as most families do.
