Dude, come on, I know everyone hates that game, but what you're saying is simply not true. Samus was getting tentacle raped through doujinshis the moment the first game came out. She is a hot woman, venturing through space by herself, fighting space monsters. A lot of people took advantage of that. Also, in the fucking first game, you could make her wear bikini. Pretty sure sexualization of Samus started right fucking there.
And come on, the other M at least tried to give Samus some kind of character and personality. In previous game, it literally did not matter who was inside the armor. The other M made Samus into a weak-willed girl who never shuts the fuck up and has daddy issues while having slightly creepy feelings toward older man, but hey, at least that was something.

@Ficfactor: The first thing that depicted her like that was the Metroid Manga, circa 2002, where it tried to make it look like Samus was a toddler and then Ridley fucking kiled everyone. It was a pretty gay/terrible read: I wouldn't recommend it.

@Whateverthefork: Her personality is given in non-oral terms for the most part (except for Metroid 4 (Fusion)). Just because you lack the mental capacity to understand it doesn't mean no one else does. I've never played Team Ninja's abortion of debauchery, and I never will, because on all accounts it's horribly written, and the gameplay is terrible. Thirdly, it's not, and never was about sex. Due to the graphical limitations of the NES, Samus appeared to be wearing underwear instead of shorts. Well, Samus' character makes sense when you consider her traumatic childhood. I know, most people did not like it, but the way she was shown is actually quite acurate.
