I interpreted the ending as the man dying in the war (probably World War I), then meeting Hina in the afterlife.
EDIT: Actually, never mind. After rereading it, I now think he was only wounded in the war (hence the wheelchair), and he eventually did make it back to Hina with the ring. That ring... ;_;

This is just beautiful. Even though I can't read Japanese I was still able to understand the story just by looking at the drawings themselves. Just for this the artist earns my full respect and attention for future releases.
The Story itself is very touching and shows a very passionate Hina.
I'm guessing from the last page (22) that the male died of age. Eternal Life can be painful...
