A little bit of context for the confused, although it's mostly speculative...

Kousuke Kurosawa is probably a reference to Kiyoshi Kurosawa, a Japanese director and screenwriter well-known for psychological horror and vague narratives.

Considering the cicada theme, Utsusemi is probably written with the kanji for "cicada shell". She appeared and vanished with the cicada season, and we see a cicada shell right after she disappeared.
After her disappearance, the memories of her vanished too. Next year, she appears again, to mate and disappear at the end of summer, like a cicada.

There is an abundance of animal spirits taking human shape in japanese folklore, and this seems to be mirroring those stories. It also invokes common themes of evanescence and the repeating cycle of life, for which the cicada is a common symbol.
