Because Americans are so used to being fucked over by people in power and refuse to do anything to stop it. At that point some are going to fetishize being treated like crap.

If France is in literal upheaval right now over Macron increasing the retirement age, then why haven't the Americans protested for the lack of universal healthcare, lack of regulation causing toxic spills in their water and train derailments, our crumbling infrastructure, going backwards in terms of rights, and overall the inequality that makes the Gilded Age look like a socialist utopia.
