Except this line HAS to be localized to make sense to an English audience. It's a shaky introduction mostly carried by the fact that it's written in katakana. If English had an entirely separate alphabet that would play the same role, I would gladly use it. Also, it contrasts with his renewed, confident introduction the following page.

Also, if you bothered to read the next bubble, which is connected to the first one, you'd notice he's completely stuttering and stumbling over the word. He's even missing kana (yoroshikunegaimasu and not yoroshikuonegaishimasu).

You act like localization is a bad thing. Translation inherently involves localization. Ask any translator worth their salt.

Localization has a bad rap because of 4kidz, Crunchyroll, Funimation, Twitter etc, but like any other spice, it can be overused to the point it ruins the main dish. That doesn't mean the spice has anything wrong with it, it just means that particular cook has shit taste.

If you wanted a translation without any localization at all, you would be reading ultra dry, literal translations, which at best would be Japanglish and at worst would just be MTLs. I doubt anyone wants to read that.

And if your first inclination of it being "localized" (as a pejorative) was that deep into the book, look at page 4, the top panel: do you think "swan dive straight into the toilet" was present in the Japanese? Wow, it's really cool how they use two slangy turns of phrases that are just like English!
No, of course not. That was localized to make it read better and to convey oomph, personality, breathe life into it, whatever you want to call it. You either didn't notice, or you liked it enough to not bring it up. And that's fine. My point is to stop getting triggered by Twitter and bad translators, stop getting gaslit by angry reactionary EOPs into thinking localization is a dirty word. It's not.

henlo is a suboptimal translation imo not because it's localization or w/e but because henlo has other context in english that makes it not read as a stuttering or unconfident way of saying something but as an internet meme.

Not liking a localization choice because you think localization itself as a concept is a bad thing is silly and dumb. That's what I was pushing back against. We could go back and forth all day on why this or that is a good or bad choice, and that could (would?) be a productive conversation. But that's only because we agree on a fundamental presupposition. Does that make sense?
