But yeah, we're supposed to hate (or at least mock/dehumanize) this fat kitty--who IS clever and also funny, insightful, and far from beastly--and she ends up being the best girl.

No, he doesn't hate fat people -- he hates fat WOMEN.

If you look through his comics, there are a great deal of male characters with big ol' guts (including the "thick daddy professor wolf" shown here) that are treated normally, but any female characters more than 10 pounds overweight are mocked or dehumanized (like the roommate shown here). And never ever shown in sexual scenes (with the exception of one page in Puppy Love where the main guy was boning his BBW fiance while fantasizing about a skinny girl that was "far more gifted" and had a "superior demeanor").

I honestly had to read the comic from start to the latest page just to confirm something about our now beloved Cathy.
And yes, it really seems like Naylor did in fact create Cathy as someone that TvTropes likes to call "the Hate Sink" which is and I'm quoting, is a character whose intended role in the story (the role the authors made for him/her) is to be so despicable that the audience wants him or her to fail just as much as they want the heroes to succeed, unquote. Or maybe the "Friend Nobody Likes", "The Scrappy" or "The Zoidberg". Hell, maybe it's little bit of a combination but then it would imply that Naylor actually intended that for Cathy.
Now I don't really mean to diss Naylor's writing (well not as much as I normally do anyway) since I admit that I am not a really good writer myself as shown in my rewrite of "The Itch" but it is really fascinating to see the introduction of Cathy depicted as a comedic and almost downright insulting character as a foil for Brooke's expectations. Along the way, we are supposed dislike this character being annoying and all around unlikable obstacle for Brooke's supposedly inner conflict.
But I have no freaking clue if this is what Naylor expected or not, but I like to think that he still thinks that we all hate the character that he wrote for us to hate as much he hates women with that look that Cathy has. Though I am not really sure if that is the true, but in the end he ended created pretty the only true character in the entire Naylor universe... Until he decides to actually make a comic with Cathy which ends up butchering everything we like about the character into yet another sexually manipulative and driven girl who wants to be controlled by a Naylor selfinserted character.
Maybe it's because we love how down to the earth Cathy is, actually has some taste and quirks that we would end up loving. Hell, now it is confirmed that she may be a bi ( or maybe lesbian based on what we saw on The Mind of Brooke Reed) and she thinks that Brooke is not her type.
That... is freaking awesome. Naylor made a character for us to root for rather than... Whatever the hell is going on with Brooke. I mean... What even IS going on? Am I to assume that there will be this... I don't even know, gateway to female domination over men the overly sexual supernatural way or something? That Naylor thinks that college is REALLY like a source for sexual experience and exploration, thus forming them for the rest of their lives if they will be dom, sub or losers according to Naylor's ideals? Either way, I am kind of freaking out that maybe Cathy will end up a victim for whatever is to come...
Something PLEASE explain this to me.

Oh and by the way, I just looked at U-18Chan thread for this comic and I found this really hilariously accurate list about what everybody has been saying about this comic XD

1. People complaining about the fat roomate.
2. People complaining about the beliefs of the fat roommate.
3. People complaining about Jay Naylor making a charicature of how some people view feminists on the internet (missing the joke).

I still remember this cunt's long ass comic he did, Better Days I think it was, and the main character got in trouble for writing some offensive essay that the teacher brought up, and the mother read through it, one of the passages was how "the native Americans were savages and deserved what came" and she -smiled- at it all and then berated the teacher back. I think the main thing bugging me here is the implication that you can't have a loving and genuine relationship with someone AND ALSO have the presence of kinks/fetishes.

Yes, you can have a vanilla/normie relationship. Yes, you can have a relationship that's purely about a particular fetish. And yes, you can very much have both (with the same person, or with others if that's your agreed-upon dynamic).

Also: being "jaded" sexually is an attitude, not a lifestyle, and can apply to any and all types of relationships.

This binary that Naylor is imposing makes no sense and is causing Brooke unnecessary conflict.

Jay Naylor never fails to write unsympathetic MCs SCs and BGCs. He's so good at it, in fact, he's never even written anything approaching a sympathetic character in his entire career. Just about every character with traits beyond 'wanton lust' invariably turn out to be the kind of person you hope get picked up by THAT kind of person while hitchhiking.
