The newer series was created in a decade where average people have computers, and it is not uncommon for people to have art creation programs (or at least a cheap scanner/printer). The original series might have had a lot of rule 34... but that ended up in a 1980's trapper keeper that is buried in a closet somewhere because they don't want their spouses to find it.

Anyway, the new series has its own new potential angles for "fanart" like this. Even the character designs can work well with, as we can see with the fabric of those practical pants.

I'd say this one got more rule 34 because of how old the original series is. Go pick out any old cartoon, and if it doesn't have a modern reimagining, it'll have way less art than stuff that does. And the art it does have is usually 15+ year old garbo art.
