For the non-color images, you would achieve smaller file size with no quality degradation by simply reducing color depth to 8-bit gray-scale and saving as png. I tried this on the larger (all png) torrent for Ch 1-2 gallery. The result reduced 523 MB to 237 MB (including the stitched pages 58-59) with better image quality compared to the jpg torrent of 255 MB.
