In case you aren't aware, the size increased this much because you aren't availing yourself of any JPEG features that reduce size (progressive encoding, chroma subsampling); also saving at 100% quality instead of say 98% gives only marginal visual improvement but a substantial size penalty.
Also, since the scans have not been properly leveled, you're now spending a massive number of bits faithfully saving the grain of the paper which nobody cares about...
