It wasn't time travel. Xiao locked Crystarea in a dream that showed how the story would have unfolded if Xiao didn't kill the designated hero before he could meet her. Unfortunately for Xiao, her experiences in the dream gave her the strength to fight once more, unlocking the power of her goddess form.

It was a bittersweet end, but the just-released sequel sends our heroine back into the "get beaten up by bad guys, then raped" routine.

Ah, so that's what happened. The story can be a little hard to follow, as it's mostly told through not-very-well-translated Engrish.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the new story arc had another big plot twist at the end -- like, it turns out to be an alternate universe, or something. This sequence ended with Crystarea being reunited with her old friend at the end, who is nowhere to be found in the sequel.
