All the images that show up as thumbnails with a black background and look like they're crudely drawn are suffering from a bad thumbnail conversion. If you look at the full-size image, you can see that they have a transparent background. When a conversion doesn't handle the transparency right, it just makes the background black, and then the edges of whatever is in the image, which are shaded to fade into the transparency, show up as white or light grey with a bad case of the 'jaggies'. You can see the same thing in sets that have game sprites in them, because most sprites have a transparent background, and you get the same issues.
