Because in-game, Gaius is the best character to pair up with Thraja if she is not paired up with Robin. This creates a Noire with well balanced stats and classes, and most importantly, access to the Skill Galeforce, which requires Noire's father to be Robin, Gaius, or Donnel. And Donnel tends to make a better father for Kjelle or Nah than he does for Noire.
