I believe what the ending is implying is that the mirror itself has the demonic mind control powers and that the princess wasn't fully human in the first place.

The mirror uses the phrase "darker skinned ones". It never explicitly states that it meant humans. Say... those goblins have rather dark skin...

So, you know, the implication is that the mirror mind controlled the queen into getting pregnant with a goblin's child. And when it said the princess was the fairest of the dark-skinned ones... it meant she was the prettiest goblin.

She isnt considered human by the mirror at the end, because she became a goblin, more precisely, the goblins cumdumpster. Also the queen probably thinks shes dead. She doesnt seem to know the princess is still alive.
If there was some other subplot, the artist would havexbeen more specific.
